Retirement Residence Designed by Kuan-Cheng Pu

The retirement residence design, named "Together and Relax," created by Kuan-Cheng Pu, embraces the concept of family togetherness and relaxation. Inspired by the feeling of lines, the design incorporates elements that evoke the sense of ink painting. From the screen with wood grain in the entrance to the asymmetrical collage with stone on the TV wall, the design creates a harmonious and serene atmosphere.

The unique properties of this design lie in its emphasis on creating a space where family members can gather and relax. The public areas are seamlessly connected through thoughtful design, with the ceiling acting as a divider between different spaces. Whether it's the living room, dining hall, bar, or Japanese-style room, the dwellers can share the space and interact with each other, fostering a sense of togetherness.

The design also prioritizes relaxation, using simple lines and colors to create a calming ambiance throughout the residence. The Japanese-style room combines traditional and modern elements, replacing Tatami with different color cushions and incorporating folding and sliding doors to enhance the functionality of the space. The back wall utilizes materials and lighting to highlight showpieces and create a focal point.

With a total area of 110 square meters, the design showcases the perfect blend of modern Zen style and traditional Japanese aesthetics. The use of black and white color schemes, along with elements like a guild hall and vacation-inspired touches, adds depth and character to the overall design.

The design process involved close collaboration between the designer and the homeowners, ensuring that their habits and artistic preferences were taken into account. The designer meticulously crafted every aspect of the design to create a harmonious and visually appealing space.

The "Together and Relax" retirement residence design project commenced in August 2018 in Taichung and was completed in January 2019. Throughout the project, the designer conducted extensive research on the influence of space on behavior and psychology. By strategically arranging moving lines, storage solutions, main walls, and display areas, the design creates a sense of spaciousness and utilizes natural light effectively.

The design presented several challenges, including the use of different materials and colors while maintaining consistency and coherence. The principle of simplicity and uniqueness guided the design process, resulting in a space that is both functional and visually stunning.

This exceptional design, "Together and Relax," has been recognized with the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2020. This prestigious award acknowledges designs that demonstrate outstanding creativity, resourcefulness, and technical skills, contributing to improvements in quality of life and making the world a better place.
